Making Your Resorts Even Better
By Dave Akins, Vice President of Resort Operations
Regardless of which WorldMark resort you visit during your next vacation, it’s possible there may be some projects under way. You may or may not, notice these projects during your stay. The Resort Renovation & Design (RR&D) department is responsible for keeping all WorldMark resorts in the tip-top condition that you have come to expect. Annually, the array of projects this group oversees includes major obvious changes (exterior painting or replacement of unit tile) to more subtle updates (new bedspreads or unit lighting improvements) and everything in between.
A portion of your maintenance fees is used to fund reserves that are used to refurbish or replace unit components and exterior elements as needed. Painstaking efforts are made to ensure that each dollar is spent wisely while keeping your resorts in like new condition. The RR&D team maintains a continually updated database that tracks the useful life of unit components while enlisting reserve specialists to provide insight and industry perspective to exterior elements at each resort. At the handful of resorts where WorldMark is not directly responsible for the exterior elements, RR&D plays an active role in advising each resort’s board of directors on common area refurbishment projects to ensure that WorldMark interests are properly represented. While much of the RR&D team’s efforts consist of refurbishment projects at the 71 WorldMark resorts, the team also is committed to ensuring the resorts are complying with regulatory changes. For example, The Virginia Graeme Baker Act passed in December of 2007 mandates that all pools and spas in the United States be retrofitted to adhere to strict new safety requirements. To be in compliance, RR&D has analyzed the pools and spas at each WorldMark resort and systematically updates the pools and spas when necessary. WorldMark owners and guests enjoy the wide variety of WorldMark resorts during all seasons, which means that there is never a great time to initiate some projects, especially those involving pools and spas. However, Resort Renovation & Design is committed to minimizing the impact of any refurbishment efforts on those vacationing while maintaining the aesthetics and safety of our resorts. |
