Komen for the Cure® and the Komen Puget Sound Affiliate ![]() (www.komenpugetsound.org) Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure and launched the global breast cancer movement. The Puget Sound Affiliate of Komen for the Cure is working to better the lives of those facing breast cancer in the local community joining more than 1 million breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world’s largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer. Through events like the Komen Puget Sound Race for the Cure, the Puget Sound Affiliate has invested more than $18 million in community breast health programs in 16 counties in Western Washington. Up to 75 percent of net proceeds generated by the Puget Sound Affiliate stays in the Puget Sound area. The remaining income goes to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program to fund research. Camp Korey – A Proposed Paul Newman Hole In The Wall Camp ![]() Camp Korey (www.campkorey.org) is a medically supervised camp staffed with physicians and nurses, and trained camp counselors for children suffering from serious life threatening illnesses. The camp provides a week-long experience of camp programs and activities for children ages 7-16 at no cost to them. Here, children are defined not by their medical diagnosis, but by their spirit, their creativity and their own potential. Camp Korey is dependent on generous contributions to provide the joy and fun of camp for kids who spend most of their time struggling to be healthy. Specifically designed for children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses, Camp Korey allows campers to safely enjoy the activities of “traditional” camp. Paul Newman generously provided seed money in 2005 to get the camp started and Camp Korey will soon be a full fledged member of Paul Newman Hole In The Wall Camps. Eastside Domestic Violence Program (EDVP) ![]() Eastside Domestic Violence Program (www.edvp.org) operates "safe houses" that provide immediate shelter for victims of domestic violence, and they do this with only a 5% administrative cost. The programs' services also include long term and transitional housing, food, clothing, childcare, counseling and a 24 hour hotline. EDVP provides vocational training that allows victims to transition back into society as self sufficient members of their communities and provides counseling and education to children of domestic violence help to "break the cycle". Owners wishing to gift credits may gift them to Camp Korey, EDVP, Susan G. Komen For The Cure Puget Sound or to a general fund enlisting WorldMark to direct them to the organization most in need at the time of the donation. While your gift of credits will not be tax deductible, let’s still please work together through our wonderful Club to give hope to others and to do our part as good stewards to the communities which support our Club by gifting WorldMark credits in any amount you can afford. |
